The Surprising Truth About Drug Expiration Dates

Video link

Guys, I can't. This is too good and too bad. So I'm working on a video about drug expiration dates, which legally only became a thing in 1979, which all sorts of places cite. But I decided I'm going to go and read the actual FDA regulation. And there's something there that no one mentions, but it's gold. Check this out. To assure that a drug product meets applicable standards of identity, strength, quality, purity, yada, all the normal things you would expect. But then there's this. Homeopathic drug products shall be exempt from the requirements of this section. They're not required to prove that they are just as effective at any particular date. Because it would be impossible. The FDA is basically saying, Hey guys, if you want to buy these, go ahead. Be our guest. They're not going to do anything bad to you because they're never going to do anything to you.

Additional notes

I wonder what the discussion was like in the room that led to this being added 🤔
